If you are after an authentic outback experience, then you really can’t look past the Oodnadatta Race Club.
Each year the club plays host to three major events:
- 20/20 cricket match in March: Town vs Stations
- Oodnadatta Races in May: the longest running picnic race meeting in Australia
- Oodnadatta Camp Draft and Bronco Branding in July: Showcasing the traditional skills of the men and women of the bush
Situated on the Oodnadatta Track, just outside of the township of Oodnadatta and some 1050 km north of Adelaide, the race track offers a large air-conditioned hall with full bar and catering facilities; modern, clean showers and toilets; and plenty of space for camping.
The Oodnadatta Racing and Horse Sports club is run entirely by volunteers from the town and nearby cattle stations, who work together to make these events the fantastic success that they are. Each year the Committee gives back to the community. Over the last 10 years, organisations such as RFDS, Cancer Research and Ronald McDonald House have shared in more than $146,000 in donations following the annual events.
Outback folk sure know how to have a good time and we feel sure that anyone making the journey will not be disappointed.
